Instead of gzipping, depending on the types of files, you might investigate using rsyncs '--link-dest' option. It uses hard-links to the original full backup for the next copy of a file if it is unchanged. What this means is that if a file remains unchanged over several backups, the backup store contains only one copy in that set of backups, saving disk space

One way of using this is to do a complete backup every, say, month, and use hard-links for the incremental backups between a full backup. New disk space is used only for the changed files.

The seminal article on this is Mike Rubel's at http://www.mikerubel.org/computers/rsync_snapshots/ , the ideas from which several utils have been developed. Another with the same idea you could look at is rdiff-backup.

Hi!
When im trying to collimate my dob at night i usually aim for distant light bulbs but i agree star testing would provide more precision. At least i do this for binoculars. As for the cross hair you ll need to find a way(glue or small cuts) to place white thread in the points provided by the drawing. The best bet would be to add another film can in the bottom part to make the tube longer (thus easier to focus on the thread) and then making the cuts and stick the white thread in it. At the moment i cant take a pic and upload it but as soon im able, i will let you know. If you want take a look at Nils Olof's page -> http://web.telia.com/~u41105032/kolli/kolli.html He provides a way to put double thread series in each axis for better precision,

Btw i really like your blog

Nice. It's very interesting. I built myself the film can collimator, but I did only employ to align the mirrors in day-light. I wonder if the film can collimator could be used in the star test, to acquire more precision.

I have also read about the cross haired and I saw your drawing. Nevertheless I don't get the point. How do you apply the cross haired to the film can collimator?

Thanks in advance!

hmm , you use Musca or Stumpwm ? :P

i did try dwm , it pretty good except its so small not in size but in ability to customize , still good , tried awesome but configs suck , xmonad as you mentioned , 50 mb is alot for a tiling wm , so i will try musca now ;)

Yes i have tried Xmonad and i would say that its much more modular compared to musca. Its much more mature with a huge community and dedicated fans. As i recall it doesnt have custom layouts but its not difficult to create one. Via extreme patching you can make it really awesome and is very very stable out of the box. But fyi i dont use it. Musca in the other hand has custom layouts, its small (no 500mb dependencies for Haskell), but is still in development, with small community, some small bugs. The really great thing is that the main developer is open minded and accepts many feature requests and patches thus making musca even more powerful. In a small sentence musca is a rewritten ratpoison with some critical changes in mind towards productivity.
